Role Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Trader to lead our energy derivatives trading activities. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of success in trading oil, gas, power, and related energy products. You will be responsible for managing a significant portfolio, executing trades, developing strategies, and identifying market opportunities. This role involves leadership and mentoring responsibilities, as well as working closely with the portfolio management, risk, and research teams to maximize performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Trade Execution: Manage the execution of large-scale derivative trades, including futures, options, and swaps, across oil, gas, power, and other commodity markets.
- Strategy Development: Lead the creation and refinement of proprietary trading strategies, combining market insights, quantitative analysis, and risk management principles to optimise performance.
- Portfolio Management: Oversee a significant portfolio, balancing risk and return while adhering to predefined risk limits and ensuring effective capital allocation.
- Market Monitoring: Continuously monitor global energy markets, identifying opportunities based on price movements, supply and demand fundamentals, and macroeconomic trends.
- Leadership: Provide direction and mentorship to junior traders, fostering their development and ensuring alignment with the desk’s trading philosophy.
- Risk Management: Collaborate with the risk management team to evaluate portfolio exposures, implement risk mitigation strategies, and ensure compliance with internal risk parameters.
- Client Interaction: Engage with external clients and counterparties, providing market insights, discussing trade ideas, and building strong professional relationships.
- Reporting: Produce detailed reports on trade performance, market activity, and risk metrics for senior management and internal stakeholders.
Candidate Profile:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a quantitative field. A Master’s degree or CFA/FRM qualification is preferred.
- Experience: 2+ years of experience in trading energy derivatives (oil, gas, power) with a demonstrable track record of success in generating profit.
- Skills & Competencies:
- Expertise in energy derivatives markets, including oil, gas, power futures, options, and swaps.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with experience in developing and executing trading strategies.
- Advanced proficiency in trading platforms (ICE, CME, Bloomberg, Reuters) and familiarity with data analysis tools such as Python, R, SQL, or VBA.
- Excellent risk management acumen, with the ability to balance aggressive trading with prudent risk controls.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for leading teams and engaging with external stakeholders.
