Job Title: Trading Derivatives Analyst – Oil (not Crude) (promotion to Junior Trader available)

£80,000 – £130,000 p.a. – discretionary bonus 30%

Location: London Victoria or Dubai

Role Overview:

We are seeking a Trading Analyst to support traders in executing and optimising energy-focused derivative strategies. This role will focus on energy markets such as oil, natural gas, and power. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of commodity markets, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic trading environment. You will collaborate closely with trading, research, and risk management teams to identify opportunities and manage portfolio exposure.

Key Responsibilities:

Support Trading Activities: Assist traders in the execution of derivative trades, including futures, options, and swaps in the oil, gas, power, and broader energy markets.

Market Monitoring: Conduct real-time monitoring of energy market conditions, news, and trends to identify trading opportunities and potential risks.

Data Analysis: Gather, analyse, and interpret large sets of market and trade data to generate actionable insights for trading strategies.

Position & Trade Monitoring: Monitor open positions and trades, ensuring accurate execution and timely settlement. Reconcile trades with internal systems and counterparties.

Risk Management: Collaborate with risk management to analyse portfolio risk exposure, volatility, and performance. Ensure trades adhere to predefined risk limits.

Research & Reporting: Prepare daily and weekly reports on market trends, trading activity, and strategy performance for internal stakeholders. Provide recommendations based on market data and fundamental analysis.

System Optimisation: Use trading platforms (e.g., ICE, CME, proprietary systems) to execute trades, analyse market data, and improve workflow efficiency. Assist in enhancing automated trading models.

Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with traders to ensure seamless trade execution and operational efficiency.

Candidate Profile:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Data Science, or a related quantitative discipline. A Master’s degree or CFA certification is a plus.

Experience: 2-4 years of experience in energy trading, market analysis, or a related role in a hedge fund, energy company, or investment bank.

Skills & Competencies:

Strong understanding of energy derivatives (oil, gas, power futures, options, and swaps) and commodity markets.

Proficiency in financial modelling, data analysis, and quantitative techniques.

Advanced Excel skills; experience with Python, R, or SQL for data analysis is highly desirable.

Familiarity with trading platforms such as ICE, CME, Reuters, or Bloomberg.

Strong analytical mindset with a high attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure.

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex data clearly and concisely.
