Senior Operational Risk Analyst

Position: Senior Operational Risk Analyst
£100,000 – £120,000 p.a. plus Great bonus and benefits
Summary
The Senior Operational Risk Analyst will have experience in risk, compliance, or internal audit within a relevant industry, such as commodities, shipping, or bunkerage. This role requires expertise in risk management frameworks and principles to enhance the team’s knowledge, strengthen the company’s risk awareness, and advance the maturity of the organization’s risk management practices.
Main Responsibilities
- Operational Risk Framework: Support the implementation of the Operational Risk framework across core and emerging commercial and operational areas.
- Expert Guidance: Provide subject matter expertise and insights on operational risk issues and industry best practices to management and the broader organization.
- Leadership: Serve as a deputy to the Operational Risk Manager, overseeing the team and contributing input across tasks and initiatives.
- Policy Review: Review and enhance existing policies and guidelines to increase risk awareness and drive positive change in organizational culture and behaviors.
- Incident Management: Support the Incident Management Regime by investigating incident reports, identifying control gaps or weaknesses, and documenting findings and recommendations.
- Risk Control: Develop and implement an Enterprise Risk Management framework and Risk Control Self-Assessments (RCSA).
- Initiatives and Improvements: Lead initiatives to strengthen and refine risk controls across the organization.
- Process Infrastructure: Contribute to the business process infrastructure by maintaining procedural documentation, key processes, and controls, promoting continuous improvement to mitigate risks.
- Reporting: Prepare and present risk reports and updates as part of regular internal risk management activities.
- Systems Development Lifecycle: Collaborate with IT to ensure that system changes and enhancements align with the risk management and control framework, supporting business goals.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- Background: Preferably from a commodity trading or bunkering background, with proven experience in an operational risk role or similar.
- Adaptability: Ability to multi-task and respond swiftly to shifting priorities.
- Mediation and Collaboration: Ability to mediate between various perspectives and achieve collaborative outcomes.
- Leadership: Management experience with a capability to mentor and develop junior team members.
Professional Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Risk and Control Processes: Strong understanding of operational risk and control mechanisms.
- Commodity Trading Knowledge: Proficient in commodity trading and supply chain operations.
- Experience: Background in risk, audit/assurance, compliance, internal control, or consulting.
- BPMN Process Mapping: Familiarity with BPMN for process mapping.
- Professional Certifications: Preferred qualifications in accounting (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) or risk/finance (FRM/ERP/CFA).
